A Hint of Red

I think I am the last gardener on Earth to harvest a full-size tomato this year.

The grape tomatoes were ready for picking a couple of weeks ago, but my "real" tomatoes are just languishing in productivity.

Here, finally, I see the promise of a home-grown tomato in my salad.

I had found a pepper a month ago or so and then lost it.  I have no idea how one loses a pepper that hasn't been picked, but I managed to do it.

In any event, it looks like we'll have a bounty, however small, after all.

  1. My tomatoes are finally ripening too. I have managed to harvest a few for salsa weeks ago. I'm hoping to harvest enough to can a few quarts for soup and sauce this winter. My peppers are producing in abundance. I need to head out to the garden harvest them this evening.

  2. That real tomato needs some real bacon and some real mayo and lettuce and toast. A BLT with a sun warmed red tomato from your own garden is the best. Ever.

  3. I don't eat bacon, Laurrie or mayo but I think in this instance, I can make an exception. Regina, a few quarts for soup and sauce? Are you serious? I'm still in tablespoon mode here.

  4. You need to get a truckload of pig manure. The farmer next door to me said that I will be able to grow anything in my garden, lol. @Wendy, a BLT sounds real good right now. I must add this to my list of things to do this week-end. I'm hoping to get fresh lettuce and bacon at the farmers market this week-end.
